There are many instances in which it has been observed that pressure on a cell can result in a change in gene expression: Mina Bissel's work; Melanomas on the ball and heel of the foot; Initial contact of bacterial cells with the surface during the early stage of biofilm formation.
We would like to study the mechanism of this stimulation. What happens between the pressure on the surface and the DNA-protein interaction that results in the stimulation or inhibition of transcription?
